Terang race course located in Keliambete Road about 2 klms from the main township is know as the “Flemington of the bush” and for good reason. Its large impressive grandstand over looks lush green lawns and its fences and mounting yard are line with beautiful roses that make the racecourse as pretty as a picture and very popular with race goers around the Western District.
The club was formed in 1868 and has always been popular especially with its annual New Years Day meeting and Cup Day held in March another popular meet is the Christmas Party theme days in November with several local companies booking in marquees for their end of year get together. In 1982 it saw the amalgamation of both the Garvoc & Hampden racing clubs and then in 1983 the Cobden Turf Club. These meeting are now held on weekday meetings during the months of March and April each year. The club has undergone some upgrades in recent times with the new administration building and Sapphire Dining room and bar located under the grand stand which is popular on race days and for functions including birthdays, weddings and engagements.
