Mortlake is situated in Western Victoria in a strong horseracing area.  The course holds two meetings and is always popular with locals and tourists due to its closeness to Warrnambool and Hamilton.  The Moyne Cup day is held in June and the Mortlake Cup usually in late August.  Facilities at the club have improved over the years with a recent addition of heated glassed in dining room and viewing area.  The club also has had an upgraded marquee area in 2006 which will prove popular in years to come.

Mortlake is know as the Olivine Capital of Australia.  Olivine is a volcanic rock only found in one other place in the world which is Hawaii.
